candlelight

i saw your face
flickering gold in the shadows.
strange dreams danced on the walls;
your eyes glowed with fire.

how ardently i loved you then!
how passionately i desired you –
clasped in your arms,
in smokey sweetness
so close, i could feel
the very whispers of your trembling soul
upon my skin;
the burning throb of your breathless heart
as it engulfed mine.

my dearest, but i dare not
lose myself, so utterly
yet –
i dare not drown
in the flames of that sea
whose shores i now tread
thirsting for the night
when, uninhibited
we consummate our passion
under the Open Sky
while the candles burn till dawn.
